Called to be good news for others, one powerful way to do this is to help with the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass. The action of the Eucharistic Minister is the template for life. What we do at Mass is what we are called to do beyond the Mass – to bring Christ to others.
The Lector helps to nourish our community with God’s words. Through proclamation by our Lectors, God once again speaks to us with words of love. Those words are comforting when we are in need, and they challenge us when we are going astray. Consider taking part in our proclamation at Mass. To learn more, email [email protected]
Music ministry can play a vital role in a vibrant Catholic liturgy. We have a strong tradition of music ministry at St. Lawrence Newman Center. Our mission is to:
We are actively seeking vocalists for our ensemble and cantors, as well as individuals proficient in playing instruments such as piano, guitar, bass guitar, strings, flute, or clarinet. The music is a blend of traditional hymns, chants, and contemporary worship songs. The ensemble rehearses one hour before the mass.
We are so grateful for those who have offered their musical abilities. If you have any questions or are looking to serve in the music ministry, please see Joe Brough, Music Director, after any mass or contact him here.
The sacristan sets up, prepares, and carefully arranges the liturgical books, the vestments, and other things necessary for the celebration of Mass.
During the Christmas season, we more readily want to share the bounty with which we have been richly blessed. At the beginning of the Advent season, an evergreen tree is placed in our Gathering Space. It is decorated with ornaments indicating gifts that would make Christmas a little more joyous for someone less fortunate.
Volunteers for “Cooks for Kids” at the Ronald McDonald House help prepare and serve an evening meal on the first Sunday of the month for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House at 621 Oak Street SE (across the street from the University’s Super Block dormitory complex). These are the families of children being treated for serious, and often life-threatening diseases at area hospitals.
These are just a few of the ways you can get involved here at St. Lawrence Newman Center. To learn more, contact Parish Life Coordinator, Br. Gary Davis
